Fall Fashion

Stars Artistic Pieces

Looking for that perfect peice of jewelry to complement your fall wardriobe? Well, look no further than Little Star Gallery, a fine-art establishment that’s new to Golden. The gallery features jewelry, sculpture, furniture and lighting by Denver-based artist Douglas Rich. For Denver fashionistas, the “Day Trader” necklace is a hot piece for fall, because the turquoise strands and sterling silver replicas of old trade tokens mix well with nearly everything in one’s wardrobe. “The great thing about Douglas Rich’s work is that it’s statement without trend,” says Shelly Metz, owner of Little Star Gallery. “You can really find that piece that fits you. [His work] is sculpture that graces a woman’s body.” The one -of-a-kind “Day Trader” necklace retails for $1,575. For more information, visit littlestarfinert.com.

After Midnight

Champagne Chiller by Douglas Rich

With every superlative imaginable on the tips of our tongues, there really isn’t a better way to describe self-taught artist Douglas Rich than as the quintessential Renaissance man. An absolute creative Genius, Rich finds kinship in artistic philosophies from the coastal tribes of British Columbia as well as those of Japan’s Samurai sword masters. His hands are just as nimble as his brain, it runs out, and Rich creates exquisite works in an impossibly broad range of media. From delicate glass chandeliers to hand-made furniture, jewelry and accessories, all of his works are brilliantly crafted and entirely unique. We swoon over his colorful chandeliers, which often resemble stone, bone, or leather. But the sinewy lines of his deeply textures carbon fiber and rosewood After Midnight champagne chiller left us grasping for words. We are simply astonished by how broadly talented this artist is.

Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: Art, design and fashion were always an important part of my life. When I was young, you would usually find me at a local art studio. My career path, albeit interesting, led me away from my true passion and desire of being more involved with art. A few years ago, I met a talented artist and designer whose work inspired me to expand upon my love of art and make it my career. That’s how Little Star Gallery was conceived.

Q: What distinguishes your business from others in your category?
A: My gallery is a respite, a bit of calm in a fast-paced world. It is inviting and even has big leather chairs to just sit and enjoy the artwork. Or better yet, you are welcome and even encouraged to try on the jewelry. Many clients have commented that the gallery is a fit for Aspen or Santa Fe. The gallery is a showcase for Western art, jewelry, accessories, glass art, home decor and even some contemporary pieces you might find in New York. However, you won’t find an uptight gallery owner, but instead someone who loves art and wants to share it with the world.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I find it very rewarding to help clients find the right artwork for their needs and desires. It might be an original glass chandelier by Douglas Rich that enhances their home and becomes a focal point that is enjoyed each time they see it. Or, it could be a statement-making necklace that becomes a timeless signature piece. Plus, I am surrounded by beautiful art and jewelry every day.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: My biggest challenge is to show people that there is nothing intimidating about art. And that you don’t have to have special knowledge to love art. I feel I have created a place where people can come to enjoy art and discover the value of having original artwork in their home.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: When clients enter the gallery, they are often surprised by how beautiful it is and how much thought was put into it. It is an art experience from the floor plan right down to the custom designed jewelry display cases. Also, they might be surprised to know that I am a native of Golden.
